Dysport
Dysport is used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines. It is a simple, nonsurgical treatment that is injected directly into the muscles. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles which in turn reduces muscle activity that causes lines to form.
It can be used on and off-label for multiple purposes: besides treating frown lines, it can treat fine lines around the eyes and mouth, reduce pore size, reduce perspiration, achieve facial slimming when used in the masseter and temporal muscles, reduce down turning of the mouth, reduce show of teeth (gummy smile), define the jawline, reduce the appearance of neck bands, restore lift in treated areas such the brows, among many other uses.
What is a Typical Treatment Like?
The level of pain associated with this procedure is minimal. We use tiny needles for injections. Some may describe it as being similar to a bee sting, while others feel nothing at all. We recommend you avoid taking unnecessary aspirin, NSAIDS (ibuprofen, Naproxen, etc), fish oils, and other supplements that may increase risk of bruising for several days before treatment if possible.
What Results Will I See?
Patients who receive Dysport injections can expect to see a reduction in their fine lines and wrinkles. Other benefits include brow lifting if used in the glabella, decreased down turning of the lips, reduced movement in the chin, reduced appearance of neck bands, lip eversion, etc. depending on areas treated. Dysport has both FDA approved uses and non-approved uses that have been widely employed for years around the globe. Results are noticeable about 3-4 days after treatment and can last 3-4 months.
Is There Any Downtime?
Typical side effects include temporary swelling, soreness, and redness (which all usually resolve within minutes) at the injection site, and headache within 24 hours following treatment. Bruising can occur and last a week (or more if on blood thinners). Rarely, muscles that are not directly targeted may become paralyzed temporarily.
