Dr. Puma Flaig is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She completed her residency in dermatology at the University of Minnesota in 2003 and her Internship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis in 2000. Dr. Puma was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, and moved shortly after birth to Caracas, Venezuela. She went to the “Jose Maria Vargas” Medical School at the Central University of Venezuela, founded in 1895, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Medical Doctorate in 1997.
Following residency, Dr. Puma was on faculty at the University of Minnesota, staffing the weekly resident continuity clinic and a monthly Cutaneous Lymphoma clinic. She moved to Denver, CO, in the summer of 2004 and has since been in private practice. She is also on faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and is a Clinical Instructor with the Dept. of Medicine, training medical students, pharmacy students, and internal medicine residents. Dr. Puma enjoys all aspects of medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology.
Dr. Puma was an executive member of the Colorado Dermatological Society (CDS) for six years and President of the CDS in 2012. She actively participates in community and legislative events promoting awareness of skin cancer and the dangers of indoor tanning. She is fluent in English and Spanish and has a strong Italian background. She is married to Thomas Flaig, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine in the division of Medical Oncology. Dr. Puma enjoys gardening, yoga, cooking, and hiking with her family.
