Chemical Peels

Healthy, refreshed skin is not always about doing more — it is often about restoring balance, improving cellular turnover, and treating the specific changes that make skin appear dull, uneven, or prematurely aged. Chemical peels are one of the most time-tested and versatile treatments in dermatology because they can be customized to target a wide range of concerns while supporting long-term skin health.

At Denver Tech Dermatology, we use carefully selected chemical peel protocols ranging from gentle “lunchtime” refreshers to deeper regenerative treatments designed to improve texture, pigment, acne, fine lines, and sun damage. Every peel is tailored to your skin type, goals, lifestyle, and tolerance for downtime.

Denver Tech Dermatology | Chemical Peels

What Is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a controlled application of an acid that penetrates to a certain depth which removes damaged outer skin layers and stimulates healthy new skin to emerge. Chemical peels are biostimulatory and regenerative. Depending on the formulation and depth, peels can:

  • Brighten dull-appearing skin
  • Improve uneven tone and discoloration
  • Reduce acne and clogged pores
  • Soften fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improve rough texture
  • Support collagen and elastin remodeling
  • Enhance overall skin clarity and radiance

Many patients are surprised by how customizable peels can be. Some involve only mild flaking with minimal downtime, while others create more significant resurfacing for deeper correction.

Conditions Chemical Peels Can Treat

Chemical peels may be beneficial for:

  • Sun damage and photodamage
  • Melasma and hyperpigmentation
  • Acne and acne scarring
  • Fine lines and crepey texture
  • Enlarged pores and textural changes
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Perioral lines (“smoker’s lines”)
  • Deeper wrinkles and sagging skin (with deeper peels)

Types of Chemical Peels

Often using glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid, or blended formulations, light peels provide gentle exfoliation with little downtime. These are ideal for skin brightening, acne-prone skin, and improving overall radiance and glow.

Medium-depth peels penetrate more deeply to address pigmentation, texture, moderate sun damage, and fine lines. These treatments often involve several days of visible peeling and recovery but can provide more dramatic rejuvenation.

  • Fine lines and wrinkle improvement
  • Skin texture and tone improvement
  • Acne scar reduction
  • Reduction in the size of enlarged pores
  • Decreased redness and inflammation
  • Reduced hyperpigmentation
  • Accelerated post-procedure recovery
  • Aids in hair regrowth, improved scalp health, and luminous and stronger hair

At DTC Dermatology we are using Lumicen, which contains 3% Sodium DNA ( referred to as salmon sperm in social media). It is a potent biostimulator with anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, as well as bio-restructuring capabilities which provides enhanced collagen and elastin synthesis, resulting in skin tightening, lessening redness, improving hyperpigmentation and providing skin “glow”.

Deep chemical peels are more intensive treatments designed to address advanced sun damage, deeper wrinkles, significant texture changes, and more extensive photodamage. These treatments penetrate further into the skin and can produce substantial improvement in skin quality, tone, and long-term rejuvenation when carefully selected for the right patient. Because deep peels create a more significant controlled injury to stimulate skin renewal and collagen remodeling, they also involve more downtime, longer recovery, and more detailed pre- and post-treatment care.

  • Stimulating fibroblast activity to boost collagen and elastin production
  • Improving skin hydration and texture
  • Acting as a scavenger of free radicals and reducing inflammation
  • Promoting tissue repair by supporting cell proliferation

They are used as anti-aging products, to promote muscle growth, to break down fat in the skin, for skin tightening, pigmentation correction, stimulation of hair growth, among others. They do not have regenerative properties, but they greatly enhance the function of existing cells.

Some patients benefit from layered or combination approaches that treat different conditions in different areas.

PDGF is found in your own blood and to date has been traditionally obtained by drawing blood, spinning it down and concentrating it and known as PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma). But advances in regenerative medicine have allowed us to deliver pure, lab-derived PDGF—such as Ariessence™ Pure PDGF—without needles, blood draws, or variability in quality. You can read more about Ariessence below.

Why Professional Evaluation Matters

Not every peel is appropriate for every patient. Skin type, pigmentation tendencies, medical history, medications, lifestyle, and prior procedures all influence which treatment is safest and most effective.

A properly selected peel can improve skin health and appearance significantly. An overly aggressive or poorly matched treatment, however, may increase the risk of irritation, prolonged redness, or unwanted pigmentation changes.

That is why a thorough consultation and individualized treatment plan are essential.

What to Expect

Chemical peels work best when they are part of a broader strategy focused on skin quality, prevention, and maintenance. Sun exposure, pollution, inflammation, lifestyle factors, and the environment all contribute to how skin ages over time.

Thoughtful use of peels — combined with medical-grade skincare, sun protection, other regenerative treatments, and individualized aesthetic maintenance plans — can help support healthier, stronger, more resilient skin long term and slow the process of aging.
